
The similarities between the Chinese city of Shenzhen and the Dutch Flevoland region with the city of Almere are stunning. Both areas started their urban development in the late 1970s: Shenzhen as a promising Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and Almere as promising New Town on Flevoland, the world’s largest man-made island. Both are located in a river delta, adjacent to major international metropolises: Shenzhen near Hong Kong and Flevoland next to Amsterdam. In spite of these similarities, both urban areas developed in a completely different manner.
In the 2011 Shenzhen Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture, Go West Project puts into perspective the economic, social, spatial and ecological developments of Shenzhen and Flevoland. This forms the starting point of a research that shows the possibilities and opportunities of using the Shenzhen model in a European context…

Nominated by the curators first, then selected by the Academic Committee, the Shenzhen Biennale Organizer Committee presented the following awards for the participant works: Organizer Committee Award, Documents Award, Innovation Award and Public Choice Award.
May we proffer our sincerest congratulations to you that you have won the Innovation Award of the 2009 Shenzhen & Hong Kong Bi-city Biennale of UrbanismArchitecture!!
Today, we got a package with the Award, and the official Certificate. Of course, we are very delighted with this award. Thanks again to everyone who cooperated to make 100 Days of Stories a success: team, taxi drivers, assistants, sponsors, curators and of course the audience!

March 24th, 2010 | Tags: award, Shenzhen Hong Kong Biennale | 2 Comments » Last friday, Go West participated in the Shanghai Pecha Kucha. This evening was organized as part of the Dutch participation in the Shanghai International Creative Industry Week.
In the 6min. 40 sec presentation we explained our project and how we are going to bring taxi’s from all over China to Shenzhen as our contribution to the Shenzhen Hong Kong Biennale.

The Go West Project is very delighted that we are invited to participate in the 2009 Shenzhen/Hong Kong Biennale Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture, with the contribution ’100 Days of Stories’. With this contribution, we want to show our research results from 10 cities in a highly interactive way. Right now, we are working on the funding and the organization of ’100 Days’.
